WATG, Wimberly Interiors Selected for Doral Redesign
Jun 13, 2012
The Trump Organization has closed on its purchase of Doral Golf Resort & Spa in Miami and will invest $200 million to revamp the iconic property. WATG and Wimberly Interiors will reimagine the architecture and design that will recapture the resort’s heyday.
“The architectural inspiration for the resort is Spanish Revival, with Floridian details and motifs,” says Mark Yoshizaki, vice president of WATG and the lead architect. “The property’s façade will be enhanced with coquina stone, elegant outdoor walkways, and decorative tile work.”
Adds Margaret McMahon, managing director of Wimberly Interiors: “The design vision is sophisticated, tailored and chic, including warm Floridian colors and bold details.”
Renovations are slated for the main building, lodges, conference areas, spa, Champions Pavilion, and Members’ Clubhouse. In addition, all four golf courses will be completely rebuilt, and the driving range will be lengthened and expanded to more than twice its current size. The resort will remain open during the project, which is expected to wrap up in fall 2013.
