The Ritz-Carlton, Montreal reopens its doors May 28th following a $200 million transformation overseen by Quebec architectural firm Provencher Roy + Associes. "The restoration of the hotel and its reconfiguration posed a challenge: that of adopting a contemporary design while maintaining a harmonious dialogue with the original building," says project architect Claude Provencher. "We therefore integrated the principles of the celebrated Venice Charter into our concept, as well as recommendations made in the heritage study of the Ritz-Carlton Montreal under the supervision of Jean-Claude Marsan."

The building's facade was preserved and restored, as were the lobby, Palm Court, Oval Room, and the hotel's famed garden. Many decorative details from 1912, such as marble fireplaces in some of the suites, reflect this blend of old and new. The hotel’s has 98 rooms and 31 suites received high-tech upgrades such as smart thermostats and motion sensors. Amenities include 10,000 square feet of meeting space, Maison Boulud restaurant, a 46-seat greenhouse, a new terrace on Sherbrooke Street, fitness center, and new indoor salt-water pool.
