MOST: Disrupting Design at Milan 2013

Feb 25, 2013

MOST, Milan’s design destination during the Salone del Mobil, has announced a theme of “Disrupt Design.” Featuring events, exhibitions, and installations, MOST will challenge existing industry norms and a designer’s position in the supply chain.

Fab, an e-commerce site, will invite designers to present ideas to a design expert panel on Wednesday, April 10th for a Disrupt Design afternoon. If chosen, the best new designs will be manufactured and sold by Fab. The company is also working with the American Design Club (AmDC), which will be showing several works from its members as well.

At MOST, Megaman will showcase high-performance, low-energy lighting in the event space—Milan’s Museum of Science and Technology. Resident, a lighting company from New Zealand, will also display progressive lighting and furniture.

In the monk’s dining hall of the former monastery building, Lensvelt will launch its collaboration with Studio Job. Meanwhile Job Office will show a display tables, low cabinets and lamps in the interior of the fresco room.

Stellar Works, a cross-cultural designer and manufacturer of lighting, furniture, and accessories, will reissue vintage pieces by Italian designer Carlo Forcolini and Danish architects Børge Mogensen, Vilhelm Wohlert, and Mogens Andersen. Collaborating with Shanghai-based Neri&Hu, Stellar Works will present a new collection called MING, as well as novelties by Danish design studio SPACE CPH, and OEO, the creative director of Stellar Works.

Also at MOST and featured next to the jet fighter planes in the Museum, the hotel brand BLOC will aim to display the perfect combination of luxury and price. Included in the exhibit will be Missoni-designed carpets, Roca bathrooms, and Artemide lighting.

In the Olivetan monastery cloisters, final year students from Central St. Martins’ Textile Futures will present a display re-thinking the future of the material world. Also included will be Hugo Passos and his Piet Mondrian-inspired everyday objects.
