Homewood Suites by Hilton University City in Philadelphia has earned LEED Silver certification. The hotel, which is 25 percent more efficient than the current building code, implemented a number of sustainable initiatives from the start of construction. They include:

• An energy-efficient water-loop heat pump system to power heat and air conditioning
• A smart control system to monitor the building temperature
• Occupancy sensors in common areas and card-control systems in the guest suites to control lighting
• Green roof
• High-efficiency MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) systems
• On-site storm water management
• Low-flow plumbing fixtures
