Samuelson Furniture has announced the winners its first Samuel and Rhoda Chalfin Memorial Scholarship Competition. The contest, named for the parents of Samuelson president Larry Chafin, is based on furniture design of the type the company crafts.
Three prizes were awarded to members of New Jersey's ASID student chapters; for next year's competition, an additional prize will be awarded in an Independent Student category. Judges made their decisions among three categories: exposed wood-frame seating, cabinetry, or table. Here are this year's winners:
- Fran D. Shier-Potter from Brookdale Community College for her "Triumph Chair" in an art nouveau/art deco blend of styles;
- Natalie Holmes-Mitchell of Kean University, who designed an occasional chair inspired from Gothic architecture;
- Berkeley College in Paramus, whose scholarship will go to the school or the interior design department.
