In an effort to reach its lofty development goals, Travelodge has turned to modular construction to complete half of the nearly 500 hotels it plans to build over the next 12 years in Great Britain. The hotels are reputed to be quieter than most stick-built hotels due to double walls, floor, and ceilings. Plus, Travelodge says, modular construction can cut millions of dollars in construction costs.
Not everyone is singing Travelodge's praises, however. Critics have chastised Travelodge for keeping construction jobs overseas. The company works with Verbus Systems to build the rooms in factories in China.
