More family travel and empty rooms on weekends have prompted hotels to step up efforts to become more child-friendly. Giveaways, in-room toys, waterparks, websites, and child-themed rooms are among the ways in which the hotel industry is reaching out to children in the hopes that they influence parents on where to stay for vacation.
Omni Hotels recently converted rooms at several locations into kid suites with bunk or twin beds, beanbag chairs, and denim couches. This summer, children staying at Kimpton Hotels will receive tote bags with yo-yos and bath sponges. Loews Hotels, meanwhile, has teamed with Fisher-Price for access to its electronic bike/learning tool. In Chicago, the Swissotel has implemented suites with aquatic, dinosaur, and planetarium themes.
