Once known as a "meat-and-potatoes" market, Minneapolis and St. Paul are proving they can support luxury hotels. Graves 601 Hotel, whose most expensive room is the Concert Suite at $7,500 a night, set the stage when it opened five years ago in downtown Minneapolis.
In 2006, the upscale Chambers Hotel debuted, featuring an art gallery, a modern lounge, and a hipster restaurant. A Westin hotel opened within the last year, with another slated to debut this fall in the suburbs. The Hotel Ivy, part of Starwood's Luxury Collection, has imported Italian linens, custom furnishings, and the Ivy Spa Club. In addition, a W hotel will open in downtown Minneapolis this summer.
