Starwood Hotels has opened its first Element hotel in Lexington, Massachusetts. The chain is the first in the U.S. to mandate that all its properties be LEED certified.
Element's green aspects include bins for recycling, filtered water in guestrooms, magnetic "Do Not Disturb" signs, bathroom amenity dispensers, low-VOC paints, and carpets that use up to 100 percent recycled backing content.
Other design features and amenities of the brand include a 16-foot window wall in the lobby, an outdoor firepit and barbecue, meeting space, a tech center with library, and a pantry that offers organic products.
Guestrooms at the extended-stay chain will feature modular furniture, large workspaces, swiveling flat-screen TVs, oversized spa showers, the Westin Heavenly Bed, and a full kitchen with Energy Star appliances. Suites are available as studios and one- and two-bedrooms.
