When it opens this summer, the PlumpJack Group's CADE Winery in Napa will be a testament to eco-friendly design. Architect Juan Carlos Fernandez of Lail Design Group is responsible for design of the winery, which is seeking LEED certification thanks to its use of recycled materials, solar power, and sustainable farming methods.
Perched on a ridge top with views of the Mayacamas and Vaca Mountain ranges, the winery buildings are made of concrete that is 30 percent fly ash, steel made of 98 percent recycled material, and wood certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. The main building's design allows natural ventilation and relies on its concrete mass to help cool the area.
