Marriott has launched several green initiatives for customers who book meetings at their properties. According to Marriott, a three-day meeting with 1,000 attendees produces more than 12 tons of trash, uses 200,000 kilowatts of power, and consumes 100,000 gallons of water on average.
For meetings booked between July 1, 2008 and December 31, 2009, the company will donate funds of behalf of its clients to the endangered Brazilian Amazonas rainforest.
Marriott has also introduced a menu of eco-friendly meeting products and services that encourage saving water and energy, as well as reducing waste. The hotelier will place recycle bins in meeting rooms, use pens and notepads made from recycled materials, offer tables without linens, and donate leftover food.
